One type of mezzanine is a structural style, which is a metal grate platform supported by vertical beams or columns. Solid decking can also be placed on the open metal grating. One can then place shelving or rack on top of the mezzanine. Mobile shelving can also be used on the mezzanine, thus providing even additional storage capacity.

Another mezzanine is the catwalk style, which is a mezzanine actually supported by shelving underneath the structure. Typically, rows of shelving support the metal mezzanine platform, and go thru the mezzanine to span the full height of the area. The metal grate platform, in effect attaches to the shelving or wide span rack going thru the mezzanine. One can also have just a shelf supported mezzanine without having the shelving go above the mezzanine. We will perform our analysis to determine which style mezzanine fits the situation.
